The key benchmark indices have pared their gains in the noon session. The Sensex has given up around 100 points from its intra-day highs and is now quoting at 17031, up 109 points or 0.6% and the Nifty is at 5106, up 27 points. And there has been relative underperformance on the broader market front, with the midcap index adding 22 points or 0.3% at 6887 and the smallcap index gaining 49 points or 0.5% at 8649.
M&M continues to top the gainers list on the BSE at Rs 607, up 3.2%. RIL has gained 2.2% at Rs 1038 and BHEL has added 2.2% at Rs 2382. Jindal Steel, HDFC Bank and Wipro have added between 1% and 2% each.
Telecom stocks are seeing profit-booking after the stellar gains of the recent past. Bharti Airtel has weakened by 3.2% at Rs 275 and RCom has lost 0.6% at Rs 173. Among the other major losers, Sterlite has shed 1.2% at Rs 633 and Reliance Infra has lost 0.9% at Rs 1112.
The market breadth remains positive, though. Out of 2854 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1620 advancing stocks as against 1122 declines.
