Markets open higher

The markets have opened marginally in the green, taking from where they left in the previous session. The Sensex is quoting at 18589, stronger by 29 points and the Nifty is at 5584, up seven points.

Meanwhile, the Asian markets are trading on a subdued note this morning; Hang Seng added seven points, while the Nikkei has dropped 22 points in early trades. The US markets were shut on Monday on account of the labour day holiday.

The leading gainers on the BSE are Tata Motors (strengthened by 1.3% at Rs 1049), Hero Honda (gained 1.3% at Rs 1725) and TCS (added 1% at Rs 862). ICICI Bank, L&T and Maruti are the other leading gainers.

 

On the other hand, Jaiprakash Associates weakened by 0.7% at Rs 115, Tata Power shed 0.7% at Rs 1269 and Infosys lost 0.6% at Rs 2812.

The market breadth is positive. Out of 1978 stocks traded on the BSE, there were 1343 advancing stocks as against 577 declines.
