Markets open in the green

Markets have opened on a positive note with the Nifty opening 28 points up at 6260 and the Sensex adding 83 points at 20,773. In the broader markets, the smallcap and the midcap index is up 0.6% each at 10,792 and 8,457 respectively. The benchmark index is in line with the broader markets at 0.6%.

Earlier, the Asian markets climbed in morning trade after US markets hit five month high on better than expected results and decline in greenback which boosted demand for equities. Markets in Hong Kong also surged on back of rally in Chinese local banks and resource stocks and the Hang Seng index has risen 1.1%.

On the BSE sectoral chart,IT, Teck and Consumer Durables up 1% each lead the pack. The laest gainers in the opening trades are Oil & Gas and Capital Goods.

 

Gainers (BSE): Infosys, Tata Steel and Wipro up nearly 2% are the top gainers followed by Jaiprakash Associates,  NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Jindal Steel and Sterlite gaining 1% each.

Losers (BSE): L&T and HDFC Bank down 0.2% and 0.08% respectively are the only losers on the Sensex

Market breadth is very positive. 1400 stocks have advanced while 419 have declined.
