The markets have opened in the red with the Sensex opening down 68 points at 19,686 and the Nifty started trading at 5,950 losing 25 points. The broader markets too have opened in the negative. Smallcap index is down 0.6% while the midcap index has started the day at 0.5% down. In comparison, the BSE benchmark index is outperforming at 0.4% in the negative.
Among the sectoral indices, FMCG and Oil & Gas are the only indices in the positive. All the others have opened in the red.Bankex and Realty down nearly 1% each indices are the major draggers in the early trades.
The major gainers in the opening trades are ONGC and Wipro up 1% each followed by Bharti Airtel, ITC, Hero Honda, Maruti Suzuki and TCS gaining 0.3% - 0.6%
On the losers list Jaiprakash Associates leads down 1.6% followed by Hindalco, reliance Communications, ICICI Bank, Sterlite and Tat Motors losing 1% each.
The market breadth is negative. 869 stocks have declined while 422 have advanced.
