Markets open in the red

The markets have opened in the red in line with the Asian markets with the Sensex opening down 76 points at 19,788 and the Nifty shed 27 points at 5,920. In the broader markets, the smallcap index is down 0.5% at 9,184 while the midcap opened flat at 7,568.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Consumer Durables up 0.5% followed by Auto, Health Care and Power up 0.1% - 0.4% are the only indices in the positive. The biggest loser in the opening trades are IT and Bankex are down nearly 1% each.

Hero Honda up 8% is the top gainer in the early tardes followed by L&T adding 1%. Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, BHEL, Cipla, Bajaj Auto and Jindal Steel gaining 0.1% -0.4%  are the other noteable gainers.

SBI, Reliance Communications,ONGC and DLF down 2% is the top loser on the Sensex in the early trades. Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Hindalco,TCS, Maruti Suzuki,Reliance Infrastructure, Jaiprakash Associates and Sterlite shed 1% each.

Market breadth is negative. 573 stocks have declined while 535 have advanced.
