Markets open in the red, broader markets weak

As expected the markets have opened in the red with the Sensex dowm 74 points at 19,168 and the Nifty lost 19 points to open at 5,746. The broader markets continue its bad run with the midcap index losing 0.8% to start at 7,259 and the smallcap  index shed 1% to start trading at 8,745.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Oil & Gas up 0.3% is the top gainer in the opening trades followed by Health Care and Capital Goods. However, Auto, Power and Realty have opened down 1% each. FMCG index is trading flat at 3,515.

The gainers in the opening trades on the Sensex are Cipla up 2%, Hindalco gaining 1%,Jindal Steel, ICICI Bank, Sterlite, RIL added 0.6% -0.8%

The losers are on the Sensex are Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank and Tata Motors down 2% followed by DLF, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infrastructure and HDFC losing 1% ecah.

The market breadth is negative. 1196 stocks have declined while 666 have advanced.
