The markets have resumed their upmove after spending time in consolidation mode throughout the morning session. Strength across Asia and Europe has provided a fillip to our indices in the afternoon session. The Sensex is quoting at 16838, higher by 180 points and the Nifty is at 5054, up 55 points. The midcap index is at 6835, higher by 44 points and the smallcap index is at 8573, up 81 points. All the sectoral indices are in the green, with auto and realty being the main drivers of the upmove.
Reliance infra is the leading gainer on the BSE, strengthening by 4.6% at Rs 1119 and Bharti Airtel has gained by 4.1% at Rs 283. And the auto pack is seeing a lot of action, with Hero Honda racing ahead by 3.4% at Rs 1993, Tata Motors appreciating by 2.4% at Rs 746 and Maruti adding 1.9% at Rs 1327.
In the realty pack, Unitech has zoomed by 2.3% at Rs 70, Indiabulls Real Estate has gained 2.7% at Rs 148 and DLF has added 1.5% at Rs 262.
On the losers side, ONGC has weakened by 0.7% at Rs 1183 and ACC has shed 0.4% at Rs 854.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 2838 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1715 advancing stocks as against 1015 declines.
