Markets recover from day's low

Markets have recovered from the day's low, helped by consumer durables and FMCG stocks.

The Sensex had dropped nearly 100 points from the day's high to touch a low of 20,248 in early trades. The index thereafter started to recover and is now flat at 20,306.

The Nifty is at 6,105.

BSE consumer durables index has gained 2% at 9,585. Titan Industries is the show stealer among consumer durables stocks and is up 4% at Rs 3,420. VIP Industries, Rakesh Exports, Videocon Industries and Gitanjali Gems are some of the other gainers in the space.

The FMCG, auto, oil and power indices have moved up marginally in trades as well. However, BSE bankex is down 0.3% at 14,134.

Maruti Suzuki is the top Sensex gainer - up 2.2% at Rs 1,543. Cipla and Reliance Infrastructure have advanced 1% each to Rs 357 and Rs 1,072, respectively.

ITC, Jaiprakash Associates, Jindal Steel and Wipro are marginally in green.

Meanwhile, TCS has dropped 1.6% to Rs 1,046. Hindalco and Bharti Airtel have shed 1% each at Rs 219 and Rs 334, respectively.

ICICI Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever and SBI are some of the other major losers in the index this morning.

BSE market breadth is positive. Out of 2,550 stocks traded, 1,512 have advanced while 917 have declined.
