Markets regain strength

The Sensex is quoting at 17407, higher by 69 points and the Nifty is at 5222, up 24 points.

The markets have inched back into the green in the noon session. The Sensex is quoting at 17389, higher by 50 points and the Nifty is at 5211, up 14 points. PSU continues to hog the limelight on the back of the divestment buzz. And giving it company are the FMCG and power sectors.  

The BSE PSU index has surged more than 2% on sharp gains in stocks such as MMTC and Hindustan Copper, which have soared 22% and 8% at Rs 35345 and Rs 508 respectively.

 

In the FMCG space, ITC is up 1.7% at Rs 291 and Hindustan Unilever has added 1.6% at Rs 259.

And in the power space, Suzlon has spiked by 4.3% at Rs 57, while NTPC has gained 1.1% at Rs 201 and Torrent Power has added 0.9% at Rs 335.


The losers on the BSE are TCS (weaker by 1.7% at Rs 767), Cipla (shed 0.9% at Rs 337) and Maruti (lost 0.6% at Rs 1346).

The market breadth is marginally positive - out of 2,869 stocks traded so far, 1,525 have advanced and 1,238 have declined.
