After touching a low of 17,819, the markets moved a bit higher to trade in a tight range of some 75 odd points. The Sensex is down 128 points at 17,903 and the Nifty is at 5,377 shedding 37 points. The smallcap index is down 1.5% while the midcap index lost 1.2%, underperforming as compared to the benchmark index which is down at 0.8%.
Among the sectoral indices, FMCG up 0.9% continues to lead. All the sectoral indices continue to remain in the red. Auto index has pared most of its losses and has moved upwards while earlier gainer Health Care is down 0.5%. Capital goods too lost some of its gains. Oil & gas, Consumer Durables and Realty are the biggest loers down 2.5% each and are at the bottom of the chart.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki up nearly 2% each are the top gainers on the Sensex.ITC, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank are the other prominent gainers.
Reliance Communications and Jaiprakash Associates down 3% each are the top losers on the Sensex. RIL, Jindal Steel, DLF, BHEL and SBI are the significant losers.
