Markets remain quiet

It has been a rather dull session of trade. The Sensex is up 11 points at 17,178 and the Nifty is up seven points at 5,141. The mid-cap and small-cap indices are also virtually unchanged.

Among the gainers, Hindalco has strengthened by 2.1% at Rs 163,M&M has added 1.4% at Rs 1140 and Tata Power has jumped 1.2% at Rs 1345. ITC,  Bharti Airtel and Sterlite are the other major gainers.

And index heavyweight Reliance Industries is up 0.4% at Rs 1021.

On the losers side, Hindustan Unilever has slipped 2.9% to Rs 222, BHEL has shed 1.5% at Rs 2387 and HDFC Bank has declined 1.5% at Rs 1800.

 

The BSE market breadth has turned weak. Out of 2,891 stocks traded, 1,063 have advanced while 1740 have declined.
