Markets remain sideways

The markets have been trading in a lacklustre manner in the past one hour. The indices had started the day on a negative note, tracking weak global cues. The Sensex is now quoting at 17,376, down 45 points, and the Nifty is at 5,195, down 14 points.

M&M has weakened by 2.5% to Rs 1161 to emerge as the top loser on the Nifty.

Rate-sensitive stocks such realty and banking are facing the brunt of selling pressure n this morning's trades. Unitech, DLF, ICICI Bank and SBI have declined more than 1.5% each.

On the other hand, the IT stocks have continued their good run from the previous day. TCS leads the list of Nifty gainers, having strengthened by 2.5% at Rs 769, Wipro has also added 2.5% and is trading at Rs 711 and Infosys has moved up by 1.5% at Rs 2627.

 

Cement stocks are also trading firm. ACC is up 1.6% at Rs 913 and Ambuja Cement is trading higher by 1.5% at Rs 105.
