Markets sedate in noon trades

The markets continued to remain subdued in mid-noon trades. The index touched a low of 17,127, and is now down 10 points at 17,158. The NSE Nifty is down two points at 5,131.

The markets have been trading in a sideways manner in the afternoon session. The Sensex is up a mere five points at 17,173 and the Nifty is up four points at 5,137. The mid-cap and small-cap indices are also virtually unchanged.

Among the gainers, Hindalco has strengthened by 2.3% at Rs 163, ITC has jumped 1.7% at Rs 259 and M&M has added 1.6% at Rs 1142. Tata Power, Bharti Airtel and Sterlite are the other major gainers.

 

And index heavyweight Reliance Industries is up 0.7% at Rs 1024.

On the losers side, Hindustan Unilever has slipped 3% to Rs 221, HDFC Bank has declined 1.9% at Rs 1792 and BHEL has shed 1.4% at Rs 2388.

The BSE market breadth has turned weak. Out of 2,764 stocks traded, 1,212 have advanced while 1449 have declined.
