Markets shaky, Nifty slips into the red

After a firm opening, the markets slipped to touch an intra-day low of 20,222 but recovered quickly thereafter. The Sensex is trading up 14 points at 20,275 while the Nifty slipped in the red, down three points at 6,098.

The broader markets too slipped with the midcap index paring most of its opening gains to trade 0.5% up while the smllcap index gaining 0.7% continues to hover around the same levels from the start of the day.The benchmark index continues to underperform at 0.07%

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, IT up 0.9% leads the chart followed by initial gainer Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and PSU. However, FMCG, Realty,Metal and Capital Goods slipped into the negative. These indices were the least gainers in the opening trades too.

TCS extending its gains at 5% continues to be the top gainer in the sensex- 30 stocks. Market heavyweight RIL, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank gaining 0.7% - 0.8% are the other significant gainers.

Wipro down 3% leads the losers list on the BSE followed by Sterlite, ITC,HDFC and Jaiprakash Associates shedding 1% each.

The market breadth continues to be negative. 1678 stocks have advanced while 915 have declined.
