Markets spurt in noon trades

The markets have spurted in the last half-hour of trades. The Sensex is now up over 100 points at 20,107. The NSE Nifty has added 33 points to 6046.

Markets continue to trade in a narrow range of 50 odd points with the Sensex gaining 21 points at 20,026 while the Nifty is marginally in the green at 6,018, up five points. The market propellers on the expiry day are Teck and Auto stocks.

In the broader markets, the smallcap index is up 0.2% in line with the benchmark index while the midcap index is quiet flat at 0.1%

In the Asian markets there are no noteable changes. The indices continue to trade mixed with Hang Seng up 0.3% at 23,244 minly due to the banking shares (Bank of China and Agricultural Bank of China) posting better-than-expected results. Meanwhile, Nikkei  has slipped into the negative, down 0.2% at 9,366 ahead of  Bank of Japan policy meeting.

 

The European market, however have opened on a positive note with DAX down 0.6% as the only exception. FTSE started trading up 0.7% at 5,685 while CAC opened at 3,836, gaining 0.5%

On the BSE sectoral chart, Realty down 1% and metal index losing 0.7% are the major draggers. IT, Bankex, Oil & Gas are the only indices trading in the green along with the movers Auto and Teck stocks.

Gainers (BSE): Bharti Airtel, Hero Honda up 3% each are the top gainers.HDFC Bank, ONGC gaining nearly 1%, Infosys, TCS adding 0.8% are the other prominent gainers.

Meanwhile, Bank of Baroda (BOB) is trading at a lifetime high, up 6% at Rs 1,045, after the public sector bank reported a robust 61% jump in net profit to Rs 1,019 crore for the quarter ended September 2010 compared to Rs 634 crore in the same quarter of the previous year.

Losers (BSE): DLF down nearly 2%, Hindalco, Jaiprakash Associates, Sterlite,Tata Power and BHEL shedding 1% each are the main losers.

Market braedth is marginally positive.1463 stocks have advanced while 1361 have declined.
