The Sensex is now up 257 points at 14,048.
The NSE Nifty is up 58 points at 4,248.
HDFC Bank has rallied 5% to Rs 1,081. Tata Steel has surged nearly 4% to Rs 607.
ICICI Bank, Satyam and Reliance Infrastrucutre have advanced over 3% each to Rs 627, Rs 381 and Rs 937, respectively.
Tata Power and Wipro have gained nearly 3% each at Rs 1,073 and Rs 414, respectively.
Ranbaxy, SBI and Bharti Airtel have moved up around 2.5% each to Rs 487, Rs 1,354 and Rs 798, respectively.
Tata Motors, Jaiprakash Associates and BHEL have also added around 2.5% each to Rs 407, Rs 157 and Rs 1,630, respectively.
HDFC and Reliance Communications are up around 2% each at Rs 2,150 and Rs 500, respectively.
NTPC has shed 3.3% at Rs 172.
