The markets have steadfastly latched on to the modest gains registered at opening bell. The Sensex is quoting at 18,335, higher by 69 points and the Nifty is at 5507, up 24 points. The midcap index is at 6951, higher by 34 points and the smallcap index is at 8352, up 38 points. All the sectoral indices on the BSE are trading in the green.
On the global front, markets across Asia are trading in the green in the morning session. The Seoul, Taiwan and Nikkei have gained more than a percent each, while the Hang Seng has edged higher by half a percent. US stocks drifted sideways on Monday in what is likely a temporary pause in a sell-off brought on by growing fears of another economic downturn.
Reliance Infra has strengthened by 1.6% at Rs 551 to top the gainers list on the BSE and DLF has gained 1.5% at Rs 232. Select auto heavyweights are also doing well, with Bajaj Auto gaininf 1.5% at Rs 1362 and M&M adding 1.4% at Rs 673.
On the other hand, Tata Motors has weakened by 1.7% at Rs 995, Hindalco ha sshed 1.4% at Rs 177 and HDFC has lost 0.8% at Rs 651.
The market breadth is strong. Out of 2117 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1354 advancing stocks as against 658 declines.
