The markets have extended their gains in the past one hour. The Sensex is quoting at 16901, higher by 121 points and the Nifty is at 5058, up 41 points.
This morning's gains come on the back of a 3% rise in the past two trading sessions, post the Budget, and the markets are showing no signs of tiring out as yet.
The finance minister had unveiled a roadmap for cutting the budget deficit over the next three fiscal years, changed the personal tax rates and reduced the surcharge on corporate tax for domestic companies to 7.5% from 10%, sending the markets on an upward spiral.
Jaiprakash Associates has strengthened by 2.8% at Rs 140, Reliance has added 2.8% at Rs 1011 and Tata Power has gaiend another 1.9% at Rs 1297. DLF, Grasim and ICICI Bank are among the other major gainers.
On the loser's side, Maruti has weakened by 1.3% at Rs 1469, ONGC has shed 1.2% at Rs 1098 and ITC has lost 0.8% at Rs 239.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 2424 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1794 advancing stocks as against 572 declines.
