The markets have recovered from their lows and are are now trading firm. The Sensex is quoting at 17,619, higher by 65 points, and the Nifty is at 5267, up 15 points.
The banking space has recovered from early morning losses and is now the top sectoral gainer on the BSE, while metal, realty and energy sectors are trading weak.
Among the gainers, HDFC and HDFC Bank have strengthened by 1.9% each at Rs 2570 and Rs 1724 respectively. TCS has gained 1.5% at Rs 803 on the back of a goood Q3 show.
Tata Steel is the top loser on the BSE, weakening by 1.1% at Rs 637. Sterlite has shed 1.1% at Rs 863 and Grasim has lost 1% at Rs 2816. Tata Power, Tata Motors and DLF are the other significant losers.
The market breadth is strong. Out of 2399 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1561 advancing stocks as against 768 declines.
