Markets trade in a narrow range

After a positive opening the markets continue to trade within a narrow range of 50 odd points. The Sensex touched an intra-day high of 18,250 and is hovering around the same. The Nifty is at 5472, up 10 points and the Sensex has gained 40 points and is at 18219.

In the broader markets, the smallcap index has gained 0.5% while the midcap index is up 0.3% as compared to the banchmark index which is up 0.2%.

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE,FMCG up 1.1% leads while Bankex which had been languishing for the past few days has gained 0.5%.Yesterday's performers Oil & Gas, Teck and IT has slipped into the red.The movers in the FMCG space are Godrej Constructions up 5% and Ruchi Soya adding 3%. In the Bankex space, Indusind Bank up 5% and Union Bank adding nearly 2% are
are the major propellers.

 

Among the Sensex-30 stocks, ITC, Hindalco, Tata Steel, DLF and Jindal Steel up 1% each are the top gainers in the morning trades.

On the losers side are Sterlite down nearly 1.5% followed by Infosys and Cipla down nearly 1% are the other prominent losers.

The market breadth is positive. 1398 stocks hav advanced while 917 have declined on the BSE.
