Markets volatile, Sensex down 100pts

Markets have been showing volatility today.

The Sensex, on weak global cues, opened at a low of 16,187 However, recovery in Chinese stocks, buoyed the index to a high of 16,459 - up 272 points from the low.

The Sensex  is now down 127 points at 16,392.

The Nifty is down 29 points at 4,918.

In spite of a recovery, all the sectoral indices have remained in red. The BSE realty index has dropped 1.8% to 2,993. Power, Caiptal goods and metal stocks are down over 1% each.

NTPC has slumped 3.5% to Rs 197.

Hindalco has shed 3.2% at Rs 152. Sterlite has dropped 2.8% to Rs 634. Tata Steel has slipped 1% to Rs 502.

Wipro has shed 3% at Rs 633. TCS is down 1.5% at Rs 718.

ONGC, Tata Power, Hindustan Unilever and Reliance Communications have declined around 2% each.

Other losers include Larsen & Tourbo, Grasim, DLF and Tata Motors.

Meanwhile, Jaiprakash Associates has gained 1.7% at Rs 119.

Mahindra & Mahindra has added 1.6% to Rs 530. Auto company, Maruti Suzuki has advanced 0.5% to Rs 1,217.

Bharti Airtel and Cipla have added 1.5% each to Rs 264 and Rs 322, respectively. ACC is up 0.7% to Rs 851.

The BSE market breadth is negative. Out of 2,802 stocks traded, 2,116 have declined while 610 have advanced.
