Markets weak in morning trades

The markets opened on a flat note amid mixed global cues. However, bears were soon seen active following yesterday's weakness. The Sensex drifted to a low of 16,778, down 109 points from the day's high.

SensexThe Sensex is now down 72 points at 16,805. The NSE Nifty is down 24 points at 5,009.

Jaiprakash Associates has slipped 1.5% to Rs 219.

ITC and Hindustan Unilever have declined 1% each to Rs 249 and Rs 263, respectively.

HDFC Bank, Reliance Infrastructure and SBI are also down around 1% each.

Bharti Airtel has moved up 1.8% to Rs 322, and Sun Pharma has added 1.3% to Rs 1,470.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro and Reliance Communications are the other notable gainers.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,292 stocks traded so far, 1,369 have declined, and 855 have advanced.
