Maruti Suzuki gains after May sales rise 19%

Total sales in May 2014 rose 19.2% to 1,00,925 units driven by the compact segment

India's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki india (MSI) surged nearly 2% to Rs 2313 on the BSE after total sales in May 2014 rose 19.2% to 1,00,925 units compared with 84,677 units in May 2013 driven by the compact segment.

Further, domestic sales grew 16.4% to 90,560 during May 2014 as against 77,821 units in the same month last year.

Furthermore, sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo and Ritz rose 53.9% to 26,394 units in May 2014 as against 17,147 units corresponding to the same period last year.

Moreover, exports during May 2014 jumped 51.2% to 10,365 units compared with 6,856 units in May last year.
 

The stock opened at Rs 2280, touched a high of Rs 2335 and a low of Rs 2272 on the BSE. Over 168,489 shares were traded on both the stock exchanges so far.
