Mentha oil prices fell by Rs 17.70 to Rs 1,103 per kg in futures trade today as speculators preferred to book profits, driven by fall in demand in the spot market.

Adequate stocks following increased arrivals in the physical market kept pressure on mentha oil prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, mentha oil for delivery in April fell by Rs 17.70, or 1.58 per cent, to Rs 1,103 per kg, with a business turnover of two lots.

Similarly, the oil for delivery in February moved down by Rs 15.10, or 1.32 per cent, to Rs 1,127.20 per kg, with a open interest of just one lot.

The fall in mentha oil prices was due to profit booking by speculators and weak trend at the spot market backed by fall in demand at prevailing higher prices, traders said.

They said increased arrivals from the producing regions also put pressure on the prices.
