Mentha oil prices gained Rs 22.80 to Rs 1,313.70 per kg in futures trade today, as speculators created fresh positions following pick-up in the spot demand.
Increased demand from the domestic as well as exporters amid reports of lower production in the producing regions, mainly influenced the trading sentiment.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, October mentha oil gained Rs 22.80, or 1.70% to Rs 1,313.70 per kg with a business volume of 662 lots.
The November contract rose by Rs 16.40, or 1.22%, to Rs 1,357.70 per kg, with a trading volume of 224 lots, while prices for delivery in December added Rs 15.60, or 1.16%, to Rs 1,358.50 per kg, with a business volume of 49 lots.
Analysts said fresh buying by traders, following pick-up in demand in spot markets and lower arrivals from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh, mainly pushed up mentha oil prices at futures trade.
Increasing demand from pharmaceutical industries kept the prices higher in futures trade, they said.
