Mentha oil prices slipped by Rs 6.30, to Rs 1,203 per kg in futures trading today, as speculators preferred to lock in gains, driven by subdued demand in the spot market at higher level.
Adequate stocks following increased arrivals in the physical markets kept pressure on mentha oil prices.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, mentha oil for delivery in January slipped by Rs 6.30, or 0.52 per cent, to Rs 1,203 per kg, with an open interest of two lots.
Likewise, the oil for delivery in February shed Rs 6.20, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 1209.10 per kg, with a business turnover of just one lot.
The fall in mentha oil prices was due to profit booking by speculators and weak trend at the spot market on subdued demand at prevailing higher prices, traders said.
They said increased arrivals from the producing regions also put pressure on the prices.
