Mercator up as Baltic index hits record

The Mercator Lines scrip spurted 23.12 per cent to close at Rs 31.15 on news that the Baltic Dry Index had reported the biggest daily increase in almost 25 years. The Baltic benchmark which measures the freight costs for dry bulk commodities has increased by around 15 per cent on signs of revival in the raw materials trade.

The stock made an intraday high of Rs 34.2 and a low of Rs 26.5 with trading volumes of 2.21 crore shares (about seven times higher of its two-week average). The scrip made a 52-week high of Rs 129.3 (May 23, 2008) and a low of Rs 22.35 (December 05, 2008).
