Mid, small-cap indices gain

Markets continue to show lacklustre movements. The Sensex is now down 69 points at 17,681.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices have outperformed the broader index. The mid-cap index is up 0.4% at 7,092. Small-cap index has added 0.6% at 9,013.

The Nifty is down 15 points at 5,302.

Among mid-cap stocks - Anant Raj Industries, Bajaj Elctric, REI Agro and Gee Kay Finance are the top gainers. Shopper's Stop, Balaji Telefilms, Oriental Hotels and Take Solutions are the small-cap gainers.

Larsen & Toubro has dropped 2.3% to Rs 1,779. Sterlite and Jindal Steel have dropped 2% and 1.5% respectively in trades so far.

NTPC has shed 1.2% at Rs 197. SBI, ACC and Hindalco have slipped nearly 1% each.

Meanwhile, Maruti has extended gains and is now up 2% at Rs 1,395. Hero Honda is up 0.6% at Rs 2,033.

Communications stocks - Reliance Communications and Bharti Airtel have added 1% each to Rs 188 and Rs 265, respectively.
