State trading agency MMTC has invited bids for supply of non-basmati rice for export to different countries.
It has called for Expression of Interest (EOI) from suppliers, who as per the conditions are required to procure levy free rice from markets all over the country.
Also the bidders would have to buy rice at a price, which is as close as possible to the support price given by the government to farmers, so as not to disturb the existing price situation in the domestic market.
The EOI is to be submitted by July 23, 2010. Rice exporters are expecting the production to touch 100 million tonnes this season, riding on expectations of sufficient rainfall.
