After having a bumper soya farmers in Madhya Pradesh were hoping for good returns have been disappointed as the highly competitive international market has suppressed prices.

Soya farmers in the state complain that they are getting far less prices than the market prices.

"We got a bumper harvest due to the good rains last year. Early showers in June resulted in the abundant harvest in September. We use two kinds of seeds viz. 7105 and 335. Both yielded good results within three months," said Ganga Ram Patel, a farmer in Malwa region.

"The farmers are selling the crop at minimum support price"Rs 1,150 to 1,200 per quintal. Though soya products have a large international market, the big players abroad have a stronger base. Farmers also should not sell Soya at minimum prices. We have carried over nearly 4 lakh tonne of soya. We welcome state government's decision as it cut the transportation cost. More such measures are needed," said Rajesh Aggarwal, Manager of Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA).

It is quite true that compared with international market price of soya, which is Rs 1,300 to 1,150 a quintal, the Indian farmers are getting less price of soya.
