Nickel extend gains in futures trade

Buoyed by firming trend overseas and pick up in domestic demand, nickel continued its firmness and traded 0.96 per cent higher to Rs 1,118 per kg in futures trade today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, nickel contract for November delivery gained Rs 10.60, or 0.96 per cent, to Rs 1,118 per kg, with a turnover of one lot.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in October also up by Rs 9.30, or 0.85 per cent, to Rs 1,109.50 per kg, with a turnover of two lots.

Market analysts said firming trend in the base metals at the London Metal Exchange, as US employment data added to signs the Federal Reserve may expand credit-easing measures to spur growth, weakening the dollar and boosting demand for alternative assets.

 

Meanwhile, at the London Metal Exchange, nickel rose 0.4 per cent to $24,898 a tonne.
