Buoyed by a firm trend at the spot market on pick up in demand from alloy makers, nickel prices traded higher by Rs 1.70 to Rs 1,020 per kg in futures trade today on increased buying.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, September nickel traded higher by Rs 1.70, or 0.17% to Rs 1,020 per kg in a business turnover of 7,648 lots.

The October contract edged up by Rs 1.50, or 0.15% to Rs 1,024.30 per kg in 565 lots.

Market analysts said pick up in demand from alloy-makers in the spot market mainly helped nickel prices to trade higher in the futures market here.
