Buoyed by a firming global trend and rising spot demand, nickel prices moved up by Rs 12.40 to Rs 952.60 per kg in futures trade today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, December nickel rose by Rs 12.40, or 1.34%, to Rs 952.60 per kg, with a business volume of 23 lots.

The October contract traded higher by Rs 11, or 1.19%, to Rs 935.40 per kg, with a trade volume of 13,454 lots.

Analysts said rising demand from alloy-makers in the spot market amid a firming trend in global markets, mainly pushed up nickel futures prices.

Meanwhile, nickel added 1.9% to $19,100 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
