Nifty @ 5K: Sensex up 111pts; ONGC up 4% |

The Sensex is now up 111 points at 17,032. The index opened with a positive gap of 139 points at 17,060, and soon surged to a high of 17,158. ONGC has surged 4.38% to Rs 977.70. REL has rallied 3.2% to Rs 1,059. Tata Steel, Satyam and Infosys have advanced more than 2% each to Rs 768, Rs 440 and Rs 1,870, respectively. Maruti and TCS have gained around 1.5% each at Rs 977 and Rs 1,056, respectively. Hindustan Unilever has shed 1% at Rs 223. The NSE Nifty has crossed the 5000-mark for the first time ever. It is now up 35 points at 4976. It had taken 230 days for Nifty to move from 4,000 to 5,000. But just about 52 days to move from 4,500 to 5,000. Some of the big contributors for this were Reliance Energy which surged 2.7 per cent to Rs 1,054. Maruti rallied 2 per cent to Rs 982. Analysts are of the opinion that the markets have primarily been led by the Reliance Group |
