<b>Nifty @ 5K:</b> Sensex up 142pts; ONGC up 4%

The Sensex is now up 142 points at 17,063.

The index opened with a positive gap of 139 points at 17,060, and soon surged to a high of 17,158.

The NSE Nifty has crossed the 5000-mark for the first time ever.

Nifty is now up 36 points at 4976.

ONGC has surged 4.38% to Rs 977.70. REL has rallied 3.2% to Rs 1059.

Tata Steel, Satyam and Infosys have advanced more than 2% each to Rs 768, Rs 440 and Rs 1,870, respectively.

Maruti and TCS have gained around 1.5% each at Rs 977 and Rs 1,056, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever has shed 1% at Rs 223.
