<b>Nifty @ 5K:</b> Sensex up 174pts; REL up 3%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 139 points at 17,060, and soon surged to a high of 17,158.

The index is now up 174 points at 17,095.

The NSE Nifty has crossed the 5000-mark for the first time ever.

Nifty is now up 45 points at 4986.

Reliance Energy has surged 2.7% to Rs 1,054. Maruti has rallied 2% to Rs 982.

Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra and Infosys have advanced 1.6% each to Rs 763, Rs 764 and Rs 1,853, respectively.

ONGC and ICICI Bank have gained around 1.5% each at Rs 951 and Rs 1,034, respectively.

Satyam, ACC and Cipla are up over 1% each.

Grasim has shed 1% at Rs 3,410.
