Nifty below 5,400

After a softy opening, the markets proceeded to touch the day's low of 17,907. However, the markets have inched a few steps higher and the Sensex is at 17,933 down 99 points and the Nifty has shed 30 points at 5,385. The smallcap index and the midcap index is down 0.5% each in sync with the benchmark index which is down 0.5% too.

In the smallcap space,  125 scrips have advanced while 369 scrips have declined. The major gainers here are AP Paper up nearly 15%, Elpro International and EIH Associated adding 11% each. In the midcap space, 208 stocks have declined as comapared to just 57 advances.Tube Investments  ans Eicher Motors up 3.5% each followed by     PTC India,     EIH and  Pfizer gaining 2% each are the movers in this space.

On the BSE sectoral indices, FMCG up 0.3% continues to remain in the positive while there is no improvement in the Heath Care index which is flat since the start of the trade. All the other indices continue to be in the red. Realty and Oil & Gas which appears at the bottom since morning have extended their losses and is down 1.2% each. United Spirits and ITC up 0.7% each are the movers in the FMCG space.

 

Tata Motors (Rs 1002) up 1% is the top gainer on the Sensex followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (Rs 613) , Reliance Infrastructure (Rs 1003)  and ITC  (Rs 159) adding 0.3%- 0.6%.

Index heavyweight RIL (Rs 928)  is the biggest loser on the Sensex closely followed by Hero Honda (Rs 1756), Relaince Communications (Rs 158), Jaiprakash Associates (Rs 110) and Jindal Steel (Rs 687) down nearly 2 % each.

The market breadth is negative. 1638 stocks have declined as compared to 722 advances.
