Fresh buying in select heavyweights and old economy stocks has pushed the gains of the index in late trades. The Sensex now has surged 92 points to 6,480, while the Nifty has breached the 2,000 level to 2,001 - up 24 points. Infosys is trading firm with a spurt of 3.79% (Rs 77) at Rs 2,098. Wipro (up Rs 12 or 1.81% to Rs 649) and Satyam (up Rs 10 or 2.49% to Rs 424), too, are trading at higher levels since early trades. ITC has notched up 2.71% gains (Rs 39) to Rs 1,480. While ONGC has added 1.20% (Rs 10) to Rs 872, Reliance is up a per cent (Rs 6) at Rs 554. HLL, however, is down Rs 2 at Rs 132. ICICI Bank is up 1.49% (Rs 6) at Rs 382, and SBI is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 622. HDFC Bank, however, is down Rs 2 at Rs 539. Tata Motors has scaled up 2.83% (Rs 12) to Rs 438. Hero Honda is up 1.71% (Rs 9) at Rs 549, and Maruti is steady at Rs 440 - up Rs 7 or 1.57%. Bharti has gained nearly 2% (Rs 4) to Rs 222. While Tisco has advanced 2.67% (Rs 9) to Rs 363, BHEL is up 2.28% (Rs 19) to Rs 840. HPCL, however, continues to display weak trends at Rs 325 - down Rs 9 or 2.58%. |
