Nifty breaks 5,000

The Sensex has slipped further and is now at 16,830, down 170 points.

The NSE Nifty is at 4,999, down 59 points.

The Sensex continues to exhibit volatility and is now at 16,927, down 81 points.

The NSE Nifty is now at 5,028, down 32 points.

Infosys is the top gainer among the BSE-30 stocks, up 3.5% at Rs 2,240. Bharti Airtel and ITC have added 1.5% each at Rs 338 and Rs 247, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC and Reliance Communications are up over 1% each.

Jaiprakash Associates continue to languish deep in the red, down 3.5% at Rs 241. Larsen & Toubro and DLF have slipped 3% to Rs 1,619 and Rs 457, respectively.

 

Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and Maruti Suzuki are down over 2% each.

Among the sectoral indices, auto index is dragging the market, down 2%, followed by FMCG (1.8%) and bankex (1.7%), respectively.

IT index on the other hand is holding firm at 4,468.

The market breadth is negative, out of 2,675 shares traded, 1,420 have declined and 1,174 have advanced on the BSE so far.
