Nifty flat; IT leads

After an opening in the green, the markets lost steam and slipped into the red and touched an intra-day low of 19,618. However, the sensex recovered quickly to regain the lost territory. The Sensex is up 35 points at 19,683 while the Nifty is flat at 5,894.

In the broader markets, the smallcap index has gained 0.4% while the midcap index has pared some of its morning trades and is currently trading up 0.08%. In comparison, the midcap is underperforming the benchmark index, up 0.1%

Among the BSE sectoral indices, IT index coontinues to march ahead, gaining 2% followed by Realty up 1%. The auto index down 1% continues to be the top losers on the sectoral chart. Consumer Durables, Capital Goods, Power, Metal, PSU, FMCG and Health Care indices have all slipped into the negative range.

 

On the Asian front,the markets continue to trade mixed. Hang Seng is down 0.3%, Jakarta Composite is trading lower by 2% while Nikkei, Straits Times, Taiwan Weighted and Shanghai Composite continues to trade in the green, adding 0.2% each.

IT scrips TCS, Wipro and Infosys up 2% each are the top gainers on the Sensex followed by DLF, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel gaining 1% each.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Power, BHEL, Bajaj Auto down 2% eacha re the top losers. Jindal Steel, Tata Motors, Reliance Communications, HDFC, Maruti Suzuki and Cipla shedding 1% eacha re the other noteable losers.

The market bredath continues to be positive. 1473 stocks have advnced while 994 have declined.
