Nifty futures recorded their highest volume touching Rs 682.87 crore from 30,071 contracts. Total turnover in the futures and options (F&O) segment was Rs 4,937.90 crore.
Nifty futures, however, continued to trade at a backwardation of six-seven points to the spot Nifty. Around two lakh shares were added as open interest in the segment.
In the index options segment, 5,102 Nifty options contracts were traded with a notional value of Rs 117.24 crore. The most active call strikes were 1140, 1150 and 1130 contracts.

In put options, the 1130, 1110 and 1120 strikes were in the spotlight. While the implied volatility increased marginally in put options, it went down for call options.
In individual stock futures, Infosys Technologies, SBI, Reliance, Satyam Computer and HPCL were the most traded stocks.
Premium in most futures was bridged, a sure indication that the euphoria is being tempered with caution, dealers said. SBI and Satyam closed at a discount.
In stock options, the top twenty contracts contributed to around 44 per cent of the total traded volume. SBI was the most active option contract on individual securities traded today.
