India is not facing any shortage in onion supplies and prices of the key vegetable have now started easing, Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma said in the Lok Sabha today, replying to a member's query.

Domestic onion output this season is seen at 7.6 million tonnes (MT), same as the previous year, the minister added.

Minister of State for Agriculture KV Thomas had told Rajya Sabha Friday that wholesale prices of onion have risen 54.52% over the last one year. Sharma said onions’ domestic prices had risen due to poor rains which had led to lower acreage in key growing states of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharshtra.
