November proves a golden month for Dalal Street

 In November, the Sensex gained 11.35 per cent from 7892.32 on October, 31 to 8743.43 on Wednesday. Out of the 20 trading sessions, in only six days, the index ended the day on a negative note.  Of the top ten single month rallies, three happened during the current calendar year 2005. In May, the Sensex rose by 561 points, while in September it rose by 829.05 points.  The investor's wealth increased by a whopping Rs 2.40 trillion in a single month. The total market capitalisation of the actively traded stocks on the BSE increased to Rs 22,73,320 crore in November from Rs 20,33,087 crore in the previous month.  Of the 30 Sensex stocks, as many as 14 achieved an all time high market value on the BSE. The list includes Reliance Industries (Rs 900), Bajaj Auto (Rs 2,135.25), TCS (Rs 1,552), Larsen and Toubro (Rs 1,770), Bharti Tele-Ventures (Rs 377), HDFC (Rs 1,160.05) and Gujarat Ambuja Cement (Rs 83.25).  Out of the 2,677 actively traded stocks, 76 per cent (2022) companies reported a gain during the month. The market price of four companies more than doubled in the month of November. A total of 70 stocks gained in the range of 50 per cent-100 per cent, 330 firms between 25-50 per cent and 461 rose in the bracket of 15-25 per cent.  The market value of Shricon Industries appreciated 150 per cent, from Rs 15 to Rs 37.50 on BSE. NELCO share price more than doubled to Rs 112.30 (Rs 51.70). Similarly, Sikka Interplant Rs 99.95 (Rs 49.50) and Jindal Worldwide Rs 92.40 (Rs 46.25), showed over 100 per cent gains.  Among the front-line stocks, the market price of Siemens increased 37 per cent or Rs 882 in a single month. The stock moved from Rs 2,352.69 on October 31, to Rs 3,234.75 at the end of November.  Titan Industries gained 33 per cent to Rs 660.80 (Rs 496.10), Aurobindo Pharma gained 30 per cent to Rs 378.10 (Rs 291.70), Polaris Software up 28 per cent to Rs 127.90 (Rs 99.55) and Mahindra and Mahindra rose 28 per cent to Rs 455.10 (Rs 356.10).
