NTPC open interest soar

Volumes in the derivatives segment fell slightly. On the NSE the futures and options segment recorded a turnover of Rs 10,934 crore with a total of slightly over three lakh contracts being traded. The total outstanding open interest was close to 43 lakh shares.
 
Index futures recorded a turnover of Rs 2,857 crore with open interest at 1.25 crore shares, while stock futures saw a turnover of Rs 6,993 crore with open interest at over 31 crore shares.
 
In the futures segment the most active contracts were those of Reliance Industries, Satyam, Tata Motors, Tata Steel and NTPC among others.
 
NTPC futures topped in terms of outstanding open interest at 6.6 crore shares, followed by Tata Motors with 2.5 crore shares and IPCL with 1.54 crore shares.
 
In options calls the most popular contracts were those of NTPC at a strike of 80, Reliance at strikes of 540 and 520, Satyam at a strike of 420 and TCS at a strike of 1230. In options puts the most active contracts were those of Reliance at strikes of 520, 500 and 540 and Satyam at strikes of 410 and 420.
 
Nifty December futures closed at 1993.05, a slight premium to the spot closing of 1992.70 at the end of the day's trading.
 
Nifty January futures closed at a slight premium to the spot Nifty. The put-call ratio was at 0.36.
