Oilmeals export increased by 13% to 2.72 lakh tonne in July on the back of record oilseeds production in 2010-11 crop year ended June, according to industry data. The country had exported 2.41 lakh tonne of oilmeals in the same month last year.

In the first nine months of the current oil year, oilmeal exports rose by 85% to 45.42 lakh tonne against 24.58 lakh tonne in the year-ago period. Oil year runs from November to October.

"During current oil year 2010-11, export of oilmeals increased continuously due to sharp increase in oilseeds production," Solvent Extractors' Association said in a statement.

Increased availability of oilseeds lead to higher crushing and production of oil and meals, it said, adding that there was good demand for Indian meals in the global market.

India's oilseeds production stood at record 31.1 million tonne in 2010-11 crop year (July-June). Japan, China, Vietnam and South Korea are the major importers of oilmeals.
