Onions prices drop 53% in Nashik

The average wholesale prices of onions in Nashik, a major market in the country, on Thursday fell by around Rs 200-310 a quintal, or 40-53 per cent, against the last month's average prices on better arrivals. On Thursday, onion was sold at Rs 5 a kg in Nashik's retail markets.
 
The average wholesale prices in Pimpalgaon APMC were Rs 271 a quintal (Rs 581 a quintal on December 3, 2007), Rs 255 a quintal (Rs 475) in Yeola APMC, Rs 331 a quintal (Rs 615) in Lasalgaon APMC and Rs 300 a quintal (Rs 500) in Nashik APMC.

Nashik is a major onion market in the country. The district produces about 1.2 million tonnes of onions a year (including all three crops "" Kharif, Rangada and Rabi).
