Open interest at 31 cr shares

With just two days left for the expiry of October futures, volumes in the derivatives segment are surging up.
 
On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the turnover on the derivatives segment was of the order of more than Rs 13,000 crore with more than four lakh contracts being traded.
 
The total outstanding open interest in the market was more than 31 crore shares.
 
Index futures recorded a turnover of Rs 3,778 crore with outstanding open interest at 1.35 crore shares. Stock futures recorded a turnover of Rs 7,763 crore with more than 21 crore shares being the open interest position at the end of the day.
 
In the futures segment, the most active contracts were those of Reliance Industries, Tata Steel (both October and November futures), Satyam and Infosys.
 
The open interest position in Tata Steel October futures was 1.45 crore shares and in the November series 1.29 crore shares.
 
Dealers said a substantial portion of the current month series had been rolled over to the next month. IPCL's open interest was of the order of 68 lakh shares and Maruti 66 lakh shares.
 
In options calls the most popular contracts were those of Satyam at strikes of 360 and 370, Reliance at a strike of 540 and Tata Steel at strikes of 280 and 290.
