Over 500 stocks hit lower circuit on BSE

As many as 537 stocks out of a total of 2,835 companies traded on the BSE fell to the maximum permissible limit.

About one out of every five traded stocks saw their share prices touch their lowest permissible limit for the day on Monday after a sharp fall in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

As many as 537 stocks, out of a total of 2,835 companies traded on the BSE, from Group A, B, T and Group Z — fell to the maximum permissible limit as there were no buyers for these stocks, the exchange data shows.

Vakrangee, Panasonic Carbon India, Kwality, Marksans Pharma and I G Petrochemicals were some stocks that were frozen at the 20% circuit on the BSE.

As per guidelines, a daily circuit filter of up to 20% is applied on all scrips except for scrips on which derivative products are available and are a part of indices on which derivative products exist.

Amtek Auto dipped by 25% to Rs 48.10 on the BSE. The stock tanked 65% in the past four trading sessions from Rs 129 on August 18 after being excluded from the F&O segment.

Amtek Auto on August 20 said that there is temporary cash flow mismatch in the company and to mitigate the present situation, the promoters have infused Rs 75 crore and will infuse more funds in the future, if required. The company is also exploring various means of fund raising.

Wockhardt plunged 21% at Rs 1,302, after falling 24% to Rs 1,260 on the BSE in intra-day trades.

Jet Airways, HDIL, MRPL, Welspun Corp, Century Textiles, Tata Elxsi, SRF and India Cements were other notable stocks from the A group that fell more than 15% each.

The S&P BSE Sensex plunged by 5.94% or 1,625 points to end at 25,742. The BSE S&P Smallcap and Midcap indices declined by 9% and 8%, respectively.

The investors' wealth, measured in terms of total market capitalisation of all listed companies, declined to Rs 95,33,463 crore -- registering a loss of Rs 6,99,329 crore from Friday's level.
