Palmolein and crude palm oil prices rose by Rs 20 per quintal in the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on scattered buying by vanaspati millers amid a firming global trend.

Elsewhere, other edible and non-edible oils continued to trade in a tight range on alternate bouts of trading and settled around previous levels.

Sentiments improved as palm oil futures advanced in global markets on speculation that unrest in the Middle East may prompt governments to increase use of biofuels to help shield their countries from potential disruptions of crude-oil supplies.

Meanwhile, palm oil futures for delivery in June climbed 1.4 per cent to $1,092 a metric tonne on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange.

Traders said scattered buying by vanaspati millers amid a firming global trend mainly pushed up palmolein and crude palm oil prices. In the national capital, palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (kandla) oils rose by Rs 20 each to Rs 5,630 and Rs 5,330, respectively.
