The Sensex opened marginally (eight points) higher at 13,625, and, like yesterday, did not bother to look back... Unabated buying saw the index rally to an all-time intra-day high of 13,740. The index finally settled with a gain of 90 points at a record level of 13,707. While the Auto and TECk indices advanced over 1% each to 5319 and 3581, respectively, the FMCG index declined over 1% to 2011. The market breadth was marginally positive - out of 2,614 stocks traded, 1,311 advanced, 1,229 declined and 74 were unchanged today. INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS Satyam surged over 5% (Rs 24) to Rs 478. Reliance Energy gained nearly 4% to Rs 553, and Reliance Communications advanced 3% to Rs 430. Hero Honda and Wipro soared around 3% each to Rs 730 and Rs 585, respectively. Bharti Airtel, BHEL, Larsen & Toubro and Tata Motors were up around 2% each at Rs 638, Rs 2,470, Rs 1,373 and Rs 833, respectively. Cipla and ONGC gained 1.5% each at Rs 262 and Rs 857, respectively. SBI, NTPC, Maruti and ICICI Bank moved up over 1% each today. HLL and ITC dropped around 1.5% each to Rs 245 and Rs 181, respectively. HDFC Bank and Infosys slipped over 1% each to Rs 1,078 and Rs 2,225, respectively. VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS Info Edge topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 289 crore followed by Mahindra Gesco (Rs 167 crore), Bombay Dyeing (Rs 155 crore), Prithvi Info (Rs 121.50 crore) and Hindustan Zinc (Rs 115 crore). Donear Industries led the volume chart with trades of around 1.10 crore shares followed by Reliance Natural Resources (76.30 lakh), SpiceJet (73.40 lakh), DCB (73.20 lakh) and IFCI (53 lakh). |
